Electrical Engineer (Overhead Cranes)
Job Description
Systematic Business Consulting is seeking an Electrical Engineer who specializes in overhead cranes to design, deploy, and maintain electrical and control systems for overhead and gantry crane installations in the Richmond, Virginia area. This on-site role blends hands-on engineering with field execution to ensure safe, reliable crane operation while conforming to industry standards. Compensation ranges from $80,000 to $130,000 per year, and candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field with at least three years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for overhead cranes (bridge, gantry, monorail, and workstation) and produce schematics, wiring diagrams, and control-panel layouts using CAD. Specify VFDs, festoon and conductor-bar systems, limit switches, and safety devices. Perform load calculations, power sizing, and control logic design for hoist, trolley, bridge, and below-the-hook motion. Adhere to CMAA 70/74, NFPA 70 (NEC), and ASME B30 standards.
- Support field installation and commissioning of new crane systems and retrofit projects. Configure and test VFDs, soft starters, HMI interfaces, and relays; conduct functional testing and verify performance against design requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues related to hoist motors, control panels, limit devices, communications networks, and crane control systems. Implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Ensure designs and installations comply with applicable safety regulations and crane industry standards. Conduct risk assessments and safety inspections; maintain thorough documentation for electrical work and system modifications.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, and crane technicians. Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance teams and operators. Support continuous improvement initiatives to boost crane reliability and efficiency.
