Electrical Engineer - Power Generation
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will design, develop, and validate electrical systems for power generation products at an on-site facility in Lake Zurich, IL.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering peers to develop and improve industrial products, including generators, trailers, and light towers
- Design and integrate power generation, distribution, and control system integration for new accessories and updated product configurations
- Support electrical engineering efforts across the product lifecycle, including prototyping, supplier discussions, and product testing
- Investigate and address market-related defects as part of continuous improvement
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including Yamabiko Japan, to complete assigned tasks
- Provide regular updates, reporting, and technical consultations to supervisors
- Deliver technical support to sales and service teams
- Build technical and operational capabilities through hands-on training with experienced staff and formal training programs, including training opportunities in Japan
- Travel for business needs, including international travel, up to 20%
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and validating electrical systems for engine-driven equipment, including generators, welders, and light towers
- Demonstrated expertise in power generation, distribution, and control system integration
- 5+ years of project management experience in an engineering environment
- Strong knowledge of power generation systems, with preferred experience working on generators, light towers, engines, or other industrial equipment
- Experience with manufacturing and engineering workflows such as wiring harness design, panel design, electrical schematic creation, electrical system prototyping, and system communication implementation (including Can bus, A to D)
- Ability to use measurement tools, including calipers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, load banks, and data acquisition equipment
- Experience working with vendors to source and verify modules and components
- Strong understanding of drawing creation; SolidWorks 3D CAD proficiency for modeling and drafting is a plus
- Familiarity with compliance/regulatory standards is a plus, including UL and J1939
- Interest or experience in both electrical and mechanical work is preferred
- Basic hands-on fabrication skills

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
