Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer

Hired Acumen is seeking an onsite Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to support plant automation projects through control system development, programming, documentation, and hands-on troubleshooting across PLC and DCS environments.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the E&I Engineer builds and maintains operation interface control screens and develops control schemes and system logic software and hardware for plant automation initiatives. The position covers PLC and DCS programming, schematics and operator interfaces, troubleshooting, and process control expertise using Honeywell and Delta V DCS, RS3, PLC, HMI, and data historian systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot plant control system instrumentation and logic, identify likely sources of system issues, and support repair activities.
• Provide technical expertise to production units by maintaining PLC systems and troubleshooting control-related issues impacting operations.
• Support root cause analysis for process controls issues using historical data and DCS history to determine process upsets.
• Act as gatekeeper for process control changes by tracking and documenting control and instrument modifications.
• Document and extract historical system data as needed by Production to support operational needs and analysis.
• Implement control system modifications, including installation and updating of control solutions.
• Maintain software by performing regular system backups and installing software updates.
• Maintain DCS schematics and operator interface control screens, including documentation and configuration management.
• Support digital electronic displays, instrumentation, and pneumatics.
• Maintain application configuration documentation and track and document control changes through control drawings and software updates.
• Provide hands-on process control expertise, including review and management of documentation for system standards, control procedures, PLC system architecture, and small control or logic schemes.
• Program, integrate, troubleshoot, and support PLC software; develop ladder logic diagrams for control systems and equipment.
• Provide support for PLC systems, including occasional off-hour callouts.
• Contribute to improving plant processes and structures for acquiring, displaying, and trending process data.
• Assist with development of project control strategies, project plans, and estimates.

Required Qualifications

• BS in Control System Engineering, Automation, or Electrical Engineering, with 5+ years experience in a chemical manufacturing environment as a Control Systems Engineer.
• Prior experience working with Honeywell, Delta V, or other distributor control systems.
• Ability to develop creative solutions, and lead and work effectively in a team environment with operations, maintenance, and other support personnel.
• Experience in instrumentation and electrical and computer application.
• Prior programming experience.
• Experience applying standardized systems and applications in manufacturing facilities to simplify development efforts, maintenance, and support, while minimizing system integration and total costs.
• Experience troubleshooting and developing software for automation and controls systems.
• Experience with automation hardware and platforms including PLCs.
• Knowledge of process control systems and standards.
• Knowledge of information systems, including Production Monitoring, Utility Monitoring, and SAP.
• Experience maintaining and sustaining manufacturing systems infrastructure through proactive practices and processes.

Compensation and Location

• Location: Hahnville, LA (onsite)
• Pay: USD 145,000 - 160,000 per year
• Work location: In person
