Job Description

MacAllister Machinery is seeking an Engineer - EPG Applications to deliver site-specific engineering support for Electric Power Strategic Accounts. In this onsite role in Indianapolis, you will turn customer RFQs into technically complete, catalog-compliant submittal packages that enable smooth project execution, while reviewing requirements and coordinating cross-functional delivery.

Role summary

The Applications Engineer supports the end-to-end RFQ-to-submittal workflow by reviewing customer specifications and drawings, validating alignment with the approved Bias of Design (BoD), and developing and managing submittals, revisions, and technical documentation within established design parameters. When requirements fall outside approved catalog offerings, you will escalate items to Product Development for evaluation. Throughout project execution, you will maintain design integrity through configuration control, traceability, and adherence to engineering standards.

  • Review customer specifications and drawings, confirm alignment with the approved Bias of Design (BoD), and ensure compliance with approved catalog configurations
  • Develop, obtain approval for, and manage submittal packages, revisions, and technical documentation within established design parameters
  • Identify requirements outside approved catalog offerings and escalate them to Product Development
  • Support validation activities to confirm alignment with established designs, technical capabilities, and catalog requirements
  • Maintain design integrity, configuration control, traceability, and adherence to engineering standards during project execution
  • Escalate technical risks, capability gaps, and design exceptions to the Engineering Manager or Product Development
  • Act as the primary engineering contact for assigned projects, supporting customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders with technical questions, RFIs, compliance needs, and submittals
  • Participate in project-level engineering discussions and resolve issues within approved design boundaries
  • Coordinate project-specific technical deliverables and escalate design-authority decisions as appropriate
  • Partner with Project Manager, Supply Chain, Field Execution, and Product Development to support successful project delivery
  • Provide engineering support during project execution, installation, and commissioning activities as needed
  • Communicate project status, support engineering handoffs, and share lessons learned to improve future product and process performance
  • Coordinate project and site assignments across the Project Delivery lane to support workload balance and delivery objectives
  • Establish and maintain lane standards for customer communication, reporting, invoicing, documentation management, and project execution practices
  • Review deliverables for quality and consistency, support onboarding and training of new Project Managers, and provide project performance feedback to the Strategic Account Leader
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, submittal quality, standardization, and scalability
  • Contribute to enhancements in tools, templates, documentation practices, and catalog development based on project experience and recurring customer requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in application engineering, project engineering, or technical submittal development for electrical or mechanical power systems
  • Experience producing submittal packages for engineer acceptance in project-driven environments

  • Experience with data center projects or high-volume, configured-to-order engineering environments where scalability and repeatability drive engineering decisions
  • Knowledge of diesel and/or natural gas generator set systems, including controls interfaces, emissions compliance (Tier 4), and enclosure configurations
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar Electric Power products and application guidelines
  • Knowledge of critical power infrastructure (UPS, switchgear, paralleling systems)
