Job Description

Based in Springfield, Missouri, City Utilities of Springfield maintains a robust electric transmission and distribution network. The Electric Line Department is seeking an Engineer I through IV to contribute to the design, construction, operation, and upkeep of the system, with a clear path toward increasing independence and potential supervision of interns as experience grows. This onsite role supports reliable and safe service for the community and offers opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative utility environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general engineering tasks related to the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission assets.
  • Design line extensions to serve new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.
  • Update existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial loads due to changes, additions, or construction activities.
  • Plan and design reinforcement projects, street lighting initiatives, preventive maintenance, and system power factor improvement programs.
  • Design and layout electrical facility adjustments needed for highway improvements, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree required.
  • Minimum two years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience.
  • If the degree is in another engineering discipline, at least four years of recent progressively responsible design experience may be considered.
  • Valid Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate required.
  • Minimum four years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience.
  • Valid Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • Either eight or more years of relevant electric transmission/distribution design experience, or at least three years of T&D design plus seven years of other applicable design experience.

Pay Details

  • Engineer I – (Grade 57): Minimum $1,415.81 per week; Midpoint $1,769.76
  • Engineer II – (Grade 58): Minimum $1,618.87 per week; Midpoint $2,023.60
  • Engineer III – (Grade 59): Minimum $1,851.10 per week; Midpoint $2,313.86
  • Engineer IV – (Grade 60): Minimum $2,075.10 per week; Midpoint $2,645.75

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Working Conditions

Duties are primarily office-based with some fieldwork in various weather conditions. Employees should be able to operate a computer with close visual acuity and use hands and wrists for extended periods. Additional Information
