Job Description

This position emphasizes hands-on onsite work, collaboration with engineering and installation teams, and customer-facing support to keep vehicle and site systems operating reliably.
What you’ll do
- Lead onsite surveys to produce final design documentation used to create final project Bills of Materials (BOMs), including equipment, hardware, and cabling needed to meet deliverables and project requirements.
- Lead development of building BOMs for cables, hardware, assemblies, and software based on initial survey and design information.
- Determine appropriate designs for in-vehicle ITS hardware, including interconnection of devices, harnesses, and cabling to support proper layout, routing, and compatibility with back-end systems.
- Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to support back-end systems and networking.
- Provide leadership and oversight for onsite installation and testing. Coordinate communication and project management between Avail, agency partners, and installers during pilot and rollout installations, prioritizing issues to support smooth installation and vehicle ATP procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues during installation of Avail’s equipment, and provide guidance to the install team and customers.
- Work with mechanics and agency leads to deliver maintenance training, including troubleshooting guidance for Avail systems. Support training for customer portal access and the RMA process.
- Produce clear, accurate documentation for installation teams, project teams, and customers.
- Partner with customers to deliver exceptional service while collecting information that informs product development opportunities based on customer feedback.
- Perform periodic quality checks to help ensure quality standards are met.
- Collaborate with peers and other departments to develop and improve processes.
- Handle troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to drive issue resolution and high system operability and uptime.
- Create SOWs and subcontract agreements for vehicle and sign deployments under the direction of the PM.
What you bring
- Five or more years of relevant experience in field engineering, field service, electronics, or a similar technical role. An associate degree in a related technical field may substitute for up to two years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and working directly with external customers.
- Strong customer relationship skills, with excellent verbal and written communication.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple project demands.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate in a team, and self-manage responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and direct others, set clear expectations, and hold individuals accountable for performance and deliverables.
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, including systematic diagnosis and troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, computer, and networking issues.
- Proficiency using multimeters, soldering irons, crimping tools, and other electronic and mechanical hand tools.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio, and ability to quickly learn specialized software and technical systems.
- Creative, innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical solutions to technical and operational challenges.
Travel, physical demands, and tools
- Travel: minimum 50%.
- Physical demands: regularly required to talk or hear/listen; regularly required to drive a motor vehicle; regularly required to work with computers and keyboard; ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
