Job Description

Lead software engineer in JPMorganChase's Payments Trust and Safety Technology group, focused on fraud protection for merchants and delivering secure, scalable cloud software while advancing performance and AI assisted engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develops innovative software solutions, including design, coding, and debugging, capable of addressing nonstandard problems and breaking down complex technical challenges.
  • Produces secure, production grade code and participates in code reviews and debugging of peers' work.
  • Monitors performance metrics and analyzes product performance and scalability across diverse hardware, software, and configurations.
  • Acts as a performance advisor within teams to embed performance considerations into development practices and improve infrastructure scalability.
  • Influences senior leadership across business, product, and technology stakeholders.
  • Proactively identifies performance risks and works to mitigate or eliminate them.
  • Plans and defines methodologies for standardized performance benchmarks and comparisons.
  • Designs, builds, and implements tools to automate performance measurement and analysis.
  • Leads enterprise wide adoption of AI assisted engineering practices to enhance code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, including AI assisted code review, refactoring, faster test strategies, and root cause analysis support; establishes consistent validation standards and promotes reusable patterns.
  • Applies SDLC toolchain knowledge, including AI assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering with at least five years of practical experience.
  • Proven experience leading the effective use of approved AI assisted software development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
  • Hands on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced hands on development experience in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.
  • Experience with AWS services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, EC2, Kafka, and NLB.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Proficient across the Software Development Life Cycle and advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Experience working with AI copilots or agents for engineering.
  • In depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
