Geotechnical Engineer
Job Description
Howell Engineering is seeking a licensed Geotechnical Engineer to support residential and commercial subdivision design and land development projects in Wayne, PA. This onsite role includes technical geotechnical investigations, analysis, and delivery of reports and design recommendations, alongside leadership of the geotechnical department.
Role Overview
The position combines subsurface investigation and testing with geotechnical analysis and reporting. You will coordinate closely with Civil Engineering and Land Surveying teams to develop geotechnical recommendations that support project designs. The work also includes departmental management responsibilities and support for field instrumentation and monitoring activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Geotechnical department and coordinate with Civil Engineering and Land Surveying departments.
- Conduct soil and geological engineering investigations and prepare geotechnical reports.
- Prepare a subsurface exploration program.
- Manage and administer test boring contracts.
- Inspect borings, test pits, and probes, including foundation grouting.
- Perform soil infiltration testing and prepare a soil feasibility report.
- Prepare a laboratory soil/rock testing program.
- Perform geotechnical analysis and prepare foundation reports.
- Investigate geotechnical stability, perform related design tasks, and document results in a report.
- Prepare a CBR recommendation report and provide geotechnical reviews.
- Perform pavement design.
- Complete specialty geotechnical design tasks as required.
- Develop technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day-to-day correspondence; perform geotechnical analyses based on site conditions and project requirements.
- Support field instrumentation and monitoring activities.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineering license required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D Styles and Surfaces (preferred).
