Job Description

Howell Engineering is seeking a licensed Geotechnical Engineer to support residential and commercial subdivision design and land development projects in Wayne, PA. This onsite role includes technical geotechnical investigations, analysis, and delivery of reports and design recommendations, alongside leadership of the geotechnical department.

Role Overview

The position combines subsurface investigation and testing with geotechnical analysis and reporting. You will coordinate closely with Civil Engineering and Land Surveying teams to develop geotechnical recommendations that support project designs. The work also includes departmental management responsibilities and support for field instrumentation and monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Geotechnical department and coordinate with Civil Engineering and Land Surveying departments.
Conduct soil and geological engineering investigations and prepare geotechnical reports.
Prepare a subsurface exploration program.
Manage and administer test boring contracts.
Inspect borings, test pits, and probes, including foundation grouting.
Perform soil infiltration testing and prepare a soil feasibility report.
Prepare a laboratory soil/rock testing program.
Perform geotechnical analysis and prepare foundation reports.
Investigate geotechnical stability, perform related design tasks, and document results in a report.
Prepare a CBR recommendation report and provide geotechnical reviews.
Perform pavement design.
Complete specialty geotechnical design tasks as required.
Develop technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day-to-day correspondence; perform geotechnical analyses based on site conditions and project requirements.
Support field instrumentation and monitoring activities.

Required Qualifications

Professional Engineering license required.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.
Proficiency in Civil 3D Styles and Surfaces (preferred).

Zelestra is hiring a Project Engineer to support engineering activities for utility-scale renewable energy projects from early-stage development through Issued for Construction (IFC).

Responsibilities

Lead engineering design activities from early-stage development through detailed design and IFC
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering work across civil, electrical, structural, mechanical, geotechnical, and environmental disciplines
Manage engineering consultants, owner’s engineers, and EPC partners
Review technical drawings, engineering calculations, design packages, specifications, studies, and reports
Ensure engineering deliverables align with applicable codes, standards, contracts, and internal design criteria
Support interconnection, permitting, due diligence, constructability reviews, and technical risk assessments
Develop and review scopes of work, requests for proposals, engineering budgets, and project schedules
Collaborate with Development, Construction, Procurement, Project Management, Operations, and Commercial teams
Support EPC contract execution, coordinate with contractors, perform design reviews, and resolve technical issues
Identify design optimization, value engineering, cost reduction, and schedule improvement opportunities
Maintain engineering standards, templates, specifications, lessons learned, and technical documentation
Participate in project meetings and provide clear technical recommendations to internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Minimum 3 years of engineering experience, including experience in renewable energy, power generation, utilities, infrastructure, or construction
Experience supporting utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind energy, or power infrastructure projects
Knowledge of engineering design principles, technical specifications, design reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination
Experience working with engineering consultants, EPC contractors, vendors, or owner’s engineering teams
Strong understanding of project development, detailed design, construction, and commissioning processes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, document management systems, and engineering software
Strong analytical skills, technical writing ability, communication skills, and stakeholder management
Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and technical deliverables
