Job Description
Healthcare Engineer position serving as Project Engineer at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, MI.
Responsibilities
- Lead healthcare planning and design management for hospital projects across the VA system, including the main site and off-site facilities, whether VA-owned or leased.
- Define project requirements to meet the healthcare system's needs at the parent site and affiliated locations, regardless of ownership or lease status.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of engineering disciplines as applied to a clinical environment to support construction document review and preparation.
- Evaluate medical care programs and services to ensure projects align with organizational goals for service expansion and efficient operations.
- Oversee healthcare design and construction administration activities.
- Apply seasoned engineering judgment to scheduling, layout, inspection, and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.
- Manage shifting priorities and deadlines driven by the engineering workload.
- Train facility maintenance staff on new equipment or complex utility systems to ensure understanding and operability.
- Lead healthcare construction management and post‑project activities.
- Provide direction to contractors for construction work occurring within the facility.
- Maintain working knowledge of infection control requirements and apply risk assessments to keep active construction separate from patient care areas.
- Assist with medical infrastructure planning, including construction projects, space changes, and planning related to medical technologies.
- Manage project aspects for planning, design reviews, construction, and equipment installation for facilities such as cardiac cath labs, operating rooms, pharmacy compounding suites, sterile processing, radiology suites, and IT systems.
- Support monitoring and reporting on construction and utilities programs to meet accrediting requirements, including The Joint Commission.
- Collaborate on safeguarding information in engineering databases and building automation systems, including backup, disaster recovery, and security documentation.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required to apply.
- Selective Service registration is required for male applicants born after December 31, 1959.
- English proficiency in both written and spoken form is required.
- Subject to background and security investigation.
- Selected applicants must complete an online onboarding process; provide appropriate identification for pre-employment requirements per I-9 guidelines, with Real ID compliance required after May 7, 2025.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for VA Health Care Personnel.

- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant engineering work.
Schedule
- Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Compensation
- Salary range: USD 99,402 to 129,225 per year.
