Highway Engineer

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking an experienced Transportation - Highway Engineer in Baltimore, MD to support highway design and roadway projects and to assist Senior Project Engineers. This onsite role requires a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 5 to 10 years of highway engineering experience; compensation ranges from USD 85,000 to 135,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Conduct planning and design tasks for transportation projects
• Support Senior Project Engineers with highway design tasks
• Develop roadway alignments
• Evaluate roadside features and perform design work
• Design and implement maintenance of traffic plans
• Prepare construction plans
• Prepare project specifications
• Develop cost estimates
• Develop technical reports

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• 5 to 10 years of relevant highway engineering experience
• Experience with design software tools such as MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads and AutoCAD preferred
• Experience designing and managing highway tasks and projects and preparing contract documents
• Knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and other highway design guidelines, criteria, and standards; MDOT SHA guidelines preferred
• Licensed as Professional Engineer in Maryland is preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively with others
• Effective oral and written communication at all levels of the organization
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle multiple assignments
