Lead Data Engineer
Job Description
Lead Data Engineer for Caterpillar's Earthmoving Division in Peoria, IL drives data-driven transformation across the Motor Grader and Medium Tractor value chain by sourcing and integrating data, building analytics solutions, and applying AI/ML to improve performance and reduce costs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead large-scale data collection, mining, and processing efforts to develop robust data models and deliver actionable insights
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, inefficiencies, and cost-reduction opportunities across the value chain
- Develop data-driven business cases and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders
- Apply advanced analytics, digital tools, and AI/ML models to optimize performance and efficiency
- Lead high-impact, data-focused initiatives aligned to global cost reduction and performance improvement goals
- Lead and guide team members in executing value chain cost reduction initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally to align data strategies, ensure adoption of analytics solutions, and drive measurable outcomes
- Champion data governance, data quality, and scalable analytics practices across teams
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in accredited Engineering
- Analytical Thinking: knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine root causes and create alternative solutions
- Effective Communications: ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs using appropriate communication behaviors
- Problem Solving: familiarity with approaches and tools to recognize and resolve operational or process problems; apply problem-solving knowledge to diverse situations
- Process Mapping and Flowcharting: ability to document current and proposed manufacturing processes to identify improvements
- Process Management: understanding of business process improvement tools and techniques, plus basic programming concepts; ability to monitor, update, control, or enhance existing processes

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Work location: IL-Peoria-Building AB Office
- Domestic relocation assistance is available for this role

- Travel: Up to 15% domestic and international
- This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)
SUMMARY PAY RANGE
$128,470.00 - $192,710.00
