Job Description

A focused Lead Software Engineer role concentrating on the AWS database platform (Postgres and RDS SQL Server) within JPMorgan Chase’s Cloud Foundation Services, based onsite in Plano, TX, driving end-to-end design, build, and operations while pushing AI-assisted development and CI/CD improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver major components of the AWS database platform and enabling infrastructure, from requirements through build, testing, release, and steady-state operations.
  • Create secure, production-grade code and infrastructure automation (primarily using Python and Terraform); review peers’ work to ensure correctness, performance, and maintainability.
  • Influence product design and operational practices by proposing pragmatic architectures, tradeoffs, and standards aligned to the firm SDLC, security, and controls expectations.
  • Partner with operations, SRE, security, risk, and controls teams to deliver compliant solutions, improve observability, reduce toil, and maintain audit-ready artifacts.
  • Advance automation and CI/CD initiatives, focusing on pipeline reliability, quality gates, testing strategy, and repeatable environment provisioning to enable safe and fast delivery.
  • Lead adoption of enterprise authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to enhance code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, establishing validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Apply knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.
  • Utilize AI-assisted developer tools (GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot) to accelerate routine tasks while ensuring outputs meet production and security standards through validation and refinement.
  • Define and reinforce safe AI usage patterns within the team, including verification expectations, data handling considerations, licensing/IP awareness, and compliance with firm controls before merges and releases.

Requirements

  • Formal software engineering training or certification with 5+ years of applied experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on software development and design on AWS, including solutions that leverage AWS database services and the supporting infrastructure.
  • Strong practical skills in Python and Terraform, with a track record of production-grade automation and infrastructure as code.
  • Advanced working knowledge of AWS services across compute, containerized workloads, and serverless models, and how these patterns integrate with database services and platform guardrails.
  • Experience leading the effective use of AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Solid understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, resiliency, and security; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption.
  • Working experience with Jira, Bitbucket, and Confluence, plus day-to-day development in IntelliJ IDEA and Visual Studio Code.
  • Practical experience with SQL and/or NoSQL concepts as applied to managed AWS database services (data modeling, performance, availability patterns, backup/restore approaches, and operational troubleshooting).
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot), including effective prompting and disciplined verification of outputs before they are used in code or infrastructure configuration.
  • Clear understanding of responsible and approved AI tool usage, adherence to firm controls, and applying engineering judgment to validate correctness, security posture, and compliance expectations.
