Job Description

The Lead Software Engineer role within JPMorganChase's Infrastructure Platforms, Core Foundational Platforms / Databases, focuses on designing and delivering secure, scalable, and highly automated database platform capabilities across the enterprise. You will lead the engineering efforts for database automation and platform services, collaborating with product owners, database engineering, infrastructure, application teams, and site reliability to provide modern, resilient, and developer-friendly solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software that automates database provisioning, deployment, configuration, lifecycle management, and operational workflows.
  • Expand self-service capabilities for firm-wide database platforms to accelerate delivery, improve developer experience, and reduce operational toil.
  • Build secure, reliable, and scalable backend services, APIs, automation frameworks, user interfaces, and orchestration workflows using Python, React, Django, Ansible, Terraform, and related tools.
  • Deliver innovative software solutions and troubleshoot complex technical problems beyond routine approaches.
  • Produce secure, high-quality code, conduct code reviews, debug intricate issues, and mentor other engineers.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and remediate recurring issues to enhance stability, resiliency, and efficiency of database platforms and supporting applications.
  • Collaborate with database engineering, cloud, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application teams to meet firmwide architecture, resiliency, controls, and security standards.
  • Advance modernization of database build and deployment capabilities, including cloud-enabled patterns, infrastructure-as-code, continuous delivery, and self-service operating models.
  • Champion enterprise authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, establishing validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Utilize the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.
  • Contribute to a culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect within the team.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering and at least 5 years of hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, deployment, and production stability.
  • Advanced hands-on programming experience in Python, automation, REST APIs, and platform tooling.
  • Strong foundation in software engineering principles, including object-oriented design, API development, automated testing, code quality, version control, and production support.
  • Experience building automation solutions, platform services, backend applications, workflow orchestration, or infrastructure engineering tools.
  • Proficiency with automation and continuous delivery practices, including CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Spinnaker, plus release management and environment promotion.
  • Leadership in adopting enterprise authorized AI-assisted engineering practices, with established validation standards and reuse of successful patterns across the team.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC tools and AI-assisted development capabilities to enhance automation value.
  • Full SDLC proficiency across requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to decompose complex issues and drive resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts clearly to engineering teams, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team and provide technical leadership to other engineers.
