Lead, Systems Engineer

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead, Systems Engineer to support a DoD technology program using SAFe on an Agile Release Train focused on collaborative, real-time networking applications. Based in Rockwall, TX on an onsite schedule, this role centers on providing technical direction, supporting program execution, and helping maintain transparency and delivery cadence across agile events.

Role summary

This position supports essential SAFe and ART activities, including aligning development progress to program increment execution, assisting with backlog prioritization, reviewing agile metrics, and contributing to quarterly software package delivery. The lead will coordinate closely with Release Train leadership and Product Owners to refine epics and guide critical system components and integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Release Train Engineer on reporting customer status for agile development efforts across bi-weekly sprints and the quarterly program increment execution cycle.
• Partner with Product Owners to refine Epics so they are understood by the team.
• Provide technical guidance and direction on critical system components and integrations to development and integration teams, and communicate Risk and Opportunity across the program.
• Convey the program vision to the team and help prioritize the backlog to meet program-level objectives.
• Review agile metrics generated by tool sets with the RTE to support backlog prioritization and predict schedule slippage.
• Ensure transparency using Scaled Agile Process tools, including Confluence, Jira, PI Planning, Sprint Reviews, and customer reviews.
• Maintain customer satisfaction and trust by delivering quarterly software packages on time and within budget.
• Travel may be required to support customer objectives up to 10%.

Required qualifications

• Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years of related experience, or a graduate degree with at least 7 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, 13 years of prior related experience.

Job schedule

• 9/80 schedule: employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

Preferred additional skills

• Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, including Director and above.
• Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
• SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager certification or equivalent.
• Experience working on the NCCT program as a Product Owner.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle in a cloud environment and CI/CD.
• Experience working as a Product Owner supporting multiple team compositions (for example, Development, Systems, and Platform teams).
• Advanced SAFe certification such as Agile Product Manager, SAFe Practice Consultant, or equivalent.
