In Monroeville, PA, a Materials/Metallurgical Engineer applies materials engineering evaluations, analyses, design reviews, operations support, safety analyses, and supplier assessments to sustain BPMI’s technical excellence.
Overview
This position conducts materials evaluations, analyses, design reviews, operations support, safety analyses, and supplier assessments to support the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, while upholding BPMI’s standards of technical excellence and quality control.

Salary
USD 66,800 - 126,280 per year
Education
B.S. in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering, or a B.S. in another engineering discipline with an M.S. in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Responsibilities
- Assess project objectives, monitor progress against schedule and performance goals, and provide regular updates to management and the design team.
- Support the development of material and process instructions, standards, manuals, and specifications, contributing to their preparation, execution, and reporting of material development programs.
- Provide materials engineering oversight of supplier manufacturing and fabrication procedures.
- Perform failure analyses on metal components to identify root causes and propose improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with other engineers across related technical phases to ensure integrated plans and activities.
- Prepare revisions to manuals, reports, or procedures in line with NR Program quality standards.
- Carry out production reviews and quality surveillance; review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports for assigned components and equipment; develop methods to improve supplier performance.
- Support design-for-affordability reviews and prepare cost estimates; analyze supplier designs for material suitability, reliability, and integrity.
- Draft communications to the Government containing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining funding approvals.
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of metallurgy and materials science advances and proficiency with advanced analytical tools and equipment.

Requirements
- B.S. in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering, or a B.S. in another engineering discipline with an M.S. in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Security clearance required; candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
