Join Amazon in Atlanta, GA, onsite, as a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer responsible for leading the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center projects within Amazon's logistics network. Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct layouts for multiple automated material handling system projects; lead the selection and specification of conveyors, third‑party equipment, and systems; coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineering teams; provide strategic direction and final approval on mechanical design decisions; allocate resources and assign projects to engineers.
- Develop and manage mechanical engineering project plans, schedules, deliverables, and ways of working across multiple projects; lead coordination with internal and external construction teams to minimize layout conflicts and ensure efficient installation; maintain communication with on‑site teams, clients, and senior leadership; make high‑level decisions to resolve complex field issues and project challenges.
- Directly manage and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on complex technical challenges and leadership skills; oversee the development of new engineers through mentorship programs; review and approve calculations and designs; set technical standards and best practices for the engineering team; lead technical problem‑solving for the most complex or novel design challenges; build team capabilities through training, feedback, and stretch assignment.
- Ensure all mechanical designs across projects meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards; implement quality control measures and design standards across the team; identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation; capture and apply lessons learned to improve mechanical design and delivery processes for future projects; drive continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of design and innovation, research and development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or foreign equivalent
- Experience in management of engineering design projects
- Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
