Motor Drive Engineer
Job Description
The Judge Group invites experienced engineers to apply for a Motor Drive Engineer role in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. This onsite, long-term contract opportunity offers a competitive hourly rate of $65 to $97 and centers on designing, integrating, and testing advanced motor control systems for aerospace and defense applications. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams to optimize motor drive performance, power electronics, and digital control while pursuing a potential conversion based on business needs.
What you will do
- Design, develop, and deploy motor control systems for advanced aerospace and defense programs.
- Assess and integrate three-phase BLDC motors, motor drives, and digital control solutions.
- Create and analyze power electronics designs that support motor drive and motion control applications.
- Develop and verify motor control algorithms using MATLAB, Simulink, and circuit simulation tools.
- Model, simulate, and evaluate the performance of motor drive systems and their control architectures.
- Assist with hardware integration, lab testing, debugging, and system verification activities.
- Conduct trade studies and technical evaluations to balance performance, reliability, and cost.
- Develop and validate embedded and digital controllers for motor drive applications.
- Collaborate with systems, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Evaluate system-level requirements and assess how motor drive performance affects the broader platform.
- Support EMI/EMC compliance efforts and ensure designs meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to multi-axis servo control and stabilization system development where applicable.
- Document designs, test plans, procedures, and engineering data throughout the lifecycle.
- Assist with customer reviews, technical presentations, and design reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of eight years of hands-on motor control, motor drive, or power electronics experience.
- Experience selecting and controlling three-phase Brushless DC motors (BLDC).
- Strong background in power electronics design and development.
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and circuit simulators such as SPICE or Saber.
- Deep understanding of motor control, power conversion, and electromechanical integration.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, team-based engineering environment.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple engineering efforts simultaneously.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret Security Clearance and any additional customer-required clearances prior to start.
