Miftek Corporation seeks a dedicated Mechatronics Engineer to advance and productize scientific technology, including fluidics, robotics, and other electromechanical hardware, within a startup environment. This is a full-time on-site position based in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will design, refine, and integrate electromechanical components for advanced scientific instruments, aligning fluidic and robotic subsystems with optical platforms and broader system goals. This role requires hands-on development, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and active participation in design reviews to address evolving project needs.
Responsibilities
- Design and sustain the fluidic and robotic subsystems of the company’s scientific instruments.
- Enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability of existing designs.
- Create and maintain firmware for real-time control systems.
- Design and integrate electronics for power, sensing, and control functions as needed.
- Assemble, test, and bring up new electromechanical hardware.
- Support the integration of electromechanical designs with optical platform components.
- Identify design goals and critical issues early and participate in design reviews.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or other related engineering discipline.
- 4+ years of professional design experience is ideal.
- Solid fundamentals in electromechanical systems with a drive to continue learning.
- Ability to design and prototype electronics, including microcontrollers, sensors, and stepper drivers.
- Experience with 3D modeling and rapid prototyping methods.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication tools and processes such as milling, drilling, lathe work, or sheet metal.
- Strong collaboration skills to work cohesively with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers.
- Ability to quickly grasp core technology and apply it to design decisions.
- Adaptable mindset and comfort with changing day-to-day tasks in a startup setting.

Experience
Electronics design experience: 4 years required.
