Job Description

Part-time Transmission Line Mechanical Engineer with WSP in Reno, NV (remote) joins the Overhead Transmission Design team to support project coordination, program management, and resource planning on overhead line design initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the initial project execution layout to establish an efficient and effective project plan.
  • Supervise engineers, drafters, and designers on engineering projects and interface directly with the client.
  • Create and maintain a project schedule and budget.
  • Convene weekly or bi-weekly project meetings to outline upcoming deliverables and assign responsible personnel.
  • Coordinate with clients on project status and support project meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain project workflow and thorough communication across multi-discipline projects, both internal and external to POWER.
  • Forecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planning.
  • Facilitate and adhere to POWER QA/QC procedures to ensure the correct personnel perform QA/QC reviews.
  • Participate in industry conferences to improve professional growth and knowledge transfer to colleagues.
  • Develop Transmission Line design knowledge in PLS-CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, steel pole performance loading, material procurement, construction specifications, and construction support.
  • Provide Project Manager support and maintain project status reports.
  • Deliver weekly or bi-weekly project updates and project forecasting.
  • Lead or support PM activities by meeting with clients, in person or remotely.
  • Develop client relationships to position POWER for future opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education engineering experience with prior mechanical design work.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Strong command of English with solid written and oral communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external client personnel.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines, including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages.
  • Extensive knowledge of PLS-CADD.
  • Experience managing projects and leading multi-disciplined teams.
