Plant Layout Design Engineer
Job Description
Amrize is seeking a Plant Layout Design Engineer to support state-of-the-art plant layout and design solutions for both existing and future operating plants. This onsite role covers work across multiple CAPEX project phases, including the creation of engineering drawings and documents, field visits for layout verification, and coordination to deliver projects on time and within budget.
The work spans greenfield, brownfield, and debottlenecking projects within PM&E scope, with a focus on integrating safety, safety in design methods, country specific standards, and investment cost reduction guidance into practical layouts and deliverables.

Key responsibilities
- Adhere to safety policies and promote health, safety and environmental behaviors across all work environments.
- Develop and elaborate, for greenfield, brownfield, and debottlenecking projects, the required PM&E drawings and documents for basic engineering and tendering deliverables.
- Contribute to mass flow diagram development as part of project documentation.
- Create and elaborate plot plans and general layout deliverables.
- Develop flow sheets / flow charts for proposed solution(s).
- Produce general arrangement drawings that indicate dimensions.
- Develop equipment lists and support package deliverables including building schedules.
- Create plant section layout documentation.
- Develop single line diagrams as part of basic engineering and tendering scope.
- Perform 2D and 3D modeling using tools such as Navis Works, Revit, and ACAD tools.
- Maintain and extend the plant design data base.
- Conduct plant visits and surveys to identify interactions and interferences with existing equipment.
- Integrate investment cost reduction guidelines into plot plan, general layout, and plant section arrangements.
- Integrate safety in design methods and principles, aligned with country specific standards, including defining appropriate equipment.
- Develop and optimize design solutions with Group project stakeholders and suppliers.
- Maintain accountability for cost commitments and for delivering projects on-time and within budget, serving as a liaison between suppliers and the engineering group to support plant optimization.
- Handle 3-D CAD layout and design for major plant CAPEX projects in the range of $10MM to $500MM.
- Work directly with market area Operations Managers, Project Engineers, and Plant Managers.
- Coordinate with other Performance Specialists focused on Best Practices and Innovation, as well as functional groups including Safety, Land and Environment.
- Reinforce use of common language and disseminate manufacturing educational resources to facilitate shared learning and reinforce good practices.
- Use proper Amrize-approved PPE, including respirators where required, and follow fit testing requirements (including being clean shaven at the respirator seal area where respirators are required).
Required qualifications
- Minimum experience: 3 years
- Bachelor's degree: preferred
- Field of study preferred: Civil Engineering
- Required work experience: 3-5 years
- Good knowledge of current engineering design standards and tools specific to the cement industry.
- Good knowledge reading mass flow and flow sheets, including basic design principles and design calculations used in the cement industry.
- Familiar with processes, material handling, and logistic equipment used in the industry, including 5 years designing industrial cement plant facilities.
- Experience in the cement manufacturing sector, including operations, maintenance, design, new works, or supply of large cement plant projects.
- Basic knowledge of project management.
- IT skills including 2D and 3D CAD, Navis Works, Revit, MS Office, and Engineering Base.
- Experience and familiarity with BIM design methodology.
- Strong technical background and strong problem solving and analytical skills.
