Job Description

Seeking a Polyurethane Foam Engineer to oversee foam processing operations, drive R&D and process optimization, ensure quality through rigorous testing, and provide hands-on technical support for setup, maintenance, and installation. The role also includes supervising day-to-day activities of the assigned team to uphold safety and performance standards in a West Point, Georgia facility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily activities of the assigned team, delivering training, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Foam Pad Process Engineer to adjust foam hardness and determine pour patterns.
  • Assess standards and sample raw materials or direct in-process testing to guarantee finished products meet specifications.
  • Lead development of formulations aligned with production specifications.
  • Coordinate with production, processing, and distribution within the Foam Department to achieve manufacturing and quality objectives; consult the Quality Manager as needed.
  • Plan and participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee chemical inventory and coordinate supplier shipments, including polyols, ISO, release agents, and anti-noise wax.
  • Inspect and test incoming chemical shipments for conformity.
  • Assist with engineering changes and final design implementation, including foam components and pad design.
  • Inspect final repairs and optimize mold function to achieve optimal part quality.
  • Help develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems; analyze production, quality, maintenance, and other operational reports to identify issues.
  • Recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including machine replacements.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining programs for preventative maintenance, environmental, health and safety, training, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain scrap levels at or below targets.
  • Monitor workflow, processes, gauges, and indicators to ensure operator adherence to production, processing, and quality standards.
  • Adhere to all safety policies at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, polymer science, or mechanical engineering with relevant process experience preferred, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with polyurethane foam systems and processing, including high pressure mix heads.
  • Automotive foam pad seating experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing processes, including control of inputs and outputs.
  • Background in robot programming; Fanuc expertise is preferred.
  • Hands-on industrial maintenance experience, involving high-pressure mix heads, poly pumps, and flow meters.
  • Demonstrated experience with root cause investigation, either as a team member or facilitator.
  • Strong competencies in leadership, initiative, teamwork, and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Understanding of a leader's role in maintaining a safe work environment and a track record of safe practices and EHS compliance.
  • Familiarity with TS 16949 or ISO/QS 9000 standards is preferred.
  • Proven critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, initiative, teamwork, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective communication with employees and management.
