Power Equipment Engineer

Job Description

This role targets a mid to senior level Licensed Professional Engineer responsible for forensic cause and origin analyses of power generation and distribution equipment. The position involves assessing damage from natural and human-induced events and deciding remediation or replacement solutions, drawing on experience across hydro, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, BESS, nuclear, and traditional hydrocarbon systems. The engineer will operate onsite in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork to document as-built conditions and damage to mechanical systems from natural events (wind, water, fire, earth movement) and human-induced origins (design, construction errors/omissions, product defects).
  • Address natural catastrophe scenarios including regional floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, and earthquakes.
  • Apply building codes, technical knowledge of equipment and systems, and construction practices to define repair scope and perform cause and origin analyses.
  • Review and evaluate design drawings and related documentation.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients and interface with code officials and contractors as needed.
  • Prepare detailed written reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple project assignments, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through professional service and technical expertise.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical or electrical engineering experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer through the NCEES examination; multiple state registrations (or the ability to obtain) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of national building and construction codes (ICC, etc.).
  • Understanding of multiple construction types; additional construction knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in estimating mechanical equipment designs and installations is a plus.
  • Field experience and practical assessment capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience providing litigation support, including expert testimony at depositions or trial, mediation, and arbitration proceedings is desirable.

Compensation

Compensation range: USD 100,000 to 170,000 per year.
