Principal Coaxial Cable Design Engineer
Job Description
Advance coaxial cable technology from early research through production sustainability in an onsite Principal Coaxial Cable Design Engineer role.
Responsibilities
- Advance the coaxial cable technology roadmap from initial research, design, and development through full production sustainability, with process and equipment improvements
- Lead product design and development efforts for new products tied to customer-funded programs and new product development projects in line with Hermetics engineering standards, systems, procedures, and policies
- Specify designs and document materials, components, and performance specifications
- Create detailed drawings, manufacturing procedures, and BOMs required to build designs
- Document and record product data and design information using CAD and a product data management/ERP system
- Conduct research to assess product design and development feasibility
- Initiate, review, and process ECOs for existing product designs and parts
- Support designs beyond engineering release by following them through production and soliciting feedback from process engineering
- Experiment with new areas of SolidWorks to improve departmental efficiency and knowledge
- Identify and specify production step sequences, special equipment and tooling requirements, test requirements, test plans and procedures, and special test equipment
- Recommend sources for new materials, processes, and/or equipment
- Provide technical content for proposal and quote responses (example: specification reviews, design concept drawings, and performance limits) prior to award
- Serve as a direct technical liaison with internal and external functions, specifically applications engineering, program management, and sales
- Act as an SME and Design Project Manager for internal and customer-facing discussions and presentations
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience working directly on coaxial cable design and manufacturing engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSME or BSEE)
- Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills to serve as a direct technical liaison with internal and external functions (applications engineering, program management, sales)
- In-depth understanding of coaxial cable Mil-Specs, industry standards, and customer requirements
- Working knowledge of cable manufacturing processing equipment and techniques
- Ability to define, execute, and analyze test and measurement protocols to fully characterize coax cable
- Analytical thinker with demonstrated technical and CAD design abilities who works well in a team
- Drafting and/or CAD design experience
- Design techniques to meet cost targets while maintaining manufacturability
- Knowledge of workflow processes and sequences in ERP systems
- Design and develop cable products from concept through production release, including cable construction, shielding design, materials selection, cable/connector attachment designs, and electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance optimization

Compensation
- Pay range: $130,000 - $140,000 USD per year
- Plus incentive compensation
