Job Description

RLD Associates, Inc. is hiring a Principal Engineer and Technology Lead to stabilize and modernize a C#/.NET insurance services platform hosted on AWS. In Phase 2, the role leads development of an AI-augmented, next-generation audit platform powered by LLM capabilities.

Role Scope

This position owns both the current system and the platform’s infrastructure. The work includes end-to-end application stewardship, strengthening reliability and operational readiness, and building an LLM-driven audit workflow that supports automated deliverable generation and smarter billing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the C#/.NET application end-to-end, including reading and improving existing code, fixing defects, tightening tests, and reducing incident frequency.
  • Operate and improve the AWS environment used by the platform, focusing on cost right-sizing, security hardening, closing observability gaps, and strengthening the deployment pipeline.
  • Establish essential operational fundamentals that are missing today, including safe CI/CD, monitoring that detects regressions before customers are impacted, runbooks that a new engineer can follow, and an on-call process that does not rely on direct founder escalation.
  • Provide code review and architecture guidance, while also completing the practical engineering work required to ship.
  • Support approximately 135 auditors with day-to-day needs, including identity setup (SSO, MFA), laptop support, collaboration tooling, onboarding, and incident response.
  • Lead outcomes for ticket resolution until delegated, with an intention to hire a help-desk person early to offload the queue.
  • Own security and compliance, manage vendor risk, and lead response activities when issues occur.
  • Design and lead the build of the next-generation platform, including LLM-augmented audit workflows, automated client-deliverable generation, and improvements to billing operations.
  • Own the AI stack using OpenAI or Azure AI services, including orchestration, vector databases, evaluation (evals), cost controls, and guardrails.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions in a fast-moving landscape and present practical recommendations to leadership without vendor-driven pitches.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of production software experience, with a substantial recent focus on C#/.NET.
  • Deep, hands-on AWS experience, demonstrated through architecting, deploying, and operating production systems.
  • Proven experience managing production system outcomes across uptime, cost, security, and observability.
  • Ability to function as both the most technical contributor and the person who resolves operational issues.
  • Strong judgment about what to address now, later, or not at all, including prior experience inheriting legacy systems without rewriting them immediately.
  • Comfort in a small-firm environment where decisions are made with incomplete information and multiple roles are assumed.
