Principal/Lead Systems Engineer
Job Description
Design and safety leadership for military Aircrew Flight Equipment in Virginia Beach, VA (onsite). LBT an RFD Beaufort Inc Co is hiring a Principal/Lead Systems Engineer to guide the design engineering process, lead a Design Engineering team, and help ensure innovation aligns with stringent safety standards and commercial objectives.
Compensation: USD 120,000 per year. Relocation: relocate before starting work to Virginia Beach, VA 23452 (Required). Work location: in person.
What you’ll bring
- At least 5-10 years engineering experience in industry, plus extensive aerospace engineering experience.
- Experience in system-level integration, finite element analysis, and strong mechanical engineering skills.
- Experience with product certification for aviation applications under Military or Federal regulations.
- Knowledge and background in materials science.
- People management with 2-5 years in an Engineering Lead or middle management role.
- Education in engineering ( BEng/MEng/BSc/MSc ), preferably mechanical or aerospace engineering.
Responsibilities
- Provide top-tier design engineering expertise aligned to contract terms or service level agreements, including planning, coordinating, and supervising major contracts.
- Lead improvements to existing product designs, develop and deliver product roadmap changes, and support new product development through Beaufort’s NPD and change management process.
- Manage a knowledge management system, contributing to its development and ensuring effective knowledge sharing.
- Address emerging design, quality, safety, and operational issues by identifying causes, barriers, and stakeholders, and driving related resolution actions.
- Develop procedures and interpret regulatory requirements to support compliance and best practice, while monitoring commercial success of product developments.
- Analyze feasibility for complex products and services, recommending development, replacement, or retirement.
- Oversee a portfolio of change projects and report progress to senior colleagues.
- Recommend improvements to policies, processes, standards, and practices, and evaluate solutions that best meet business and customer needs.
- Maintain continuous professional development to stay current on technology, regulations, and industry best practices.
