Job Description

Product Cost Engineer for Meta Reality Labs Product Operations manages a product's financial health from ideation through end of life, coordinating with Operations, Engineering, Product Management, Sourcing, Finance and Contract Manufacturing to hit cost targets and sustain supply chain continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cross-functional support for active reporting and management of Total Cost per Unit, covering materials, capital expenditures, Manufacturing Value Add (MVA), warranty, freight and related costs.
  • Create cost models to inform cost targets and product category boundary decisions.
  • Leverage cost models to shape supply chain strategy and scalability initiatives.
  • Apply technical expertise to guide engineering and the supply chain teams toward meeting program cost targets at product and commodity levels for the project.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to identify and drive cost reduction opportunities.
  • Monitor program costs against targets, identify deltas, and implement corrective actions to return costs to plan.
  • Identify, report, and track all costs risks and opportunities, and drive closure.
  • Lead cross-functional cost reviews to compare actual versus target costs and surface risks and opportunities for the program.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews to understand cost implications of operational, engineering, and process changes.
  • Collaborate with Sourcing and Engineering to align on the Supplier Plan of Record (SPOR) ensuring low cost and stable supply.
  • Promote best practices for cost management across teams.
  • Help document scalable processes that capture organizational cost-management best practices.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing & Operations Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of product cost management experience in hardware technology products.
  • Strong knowledge of operations and supply chain with demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Experience adjusting to diverse communication styles and balancing non-cost variables.
  • Proven ability to apply analytical and problem-solving methods to cost or supply chain challenges, and to present findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
