This position is responsible for planning and executing engineering projects from initial proposal through completion, with a focus on defining next generation technology design and validating performance through testing and quality controls. The role is based onsite in Huntsville, Alabama.

Responsibilities

Develop project proposals, prepare project schedules, and manage approved concurrent engineering projects.
Define technology design for next generation products while also supporting sustaining needs of current products.
Determine project specifications by reviewing product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; complete technical studies and prepare cost estimates.
Lead project execution from conception through completion in a fast paced and challenging environment.
Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
Independently determine methods and procedures for new or special assignments.
Work complex issues requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors using extensive experience and judgment.
Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects.
Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
Perform overall quality control across budget, schedule, plans, and personnel performance; report regularly on project status.
Assign responsibilities and mentor the project team.
Coordinate and communicate with the project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support.
Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in a related field, plus a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working on design engineering, manufacturing, and construction projects, particularly those supporting commercial and/or Government (DOE) nuclear markets.
Working knowledge of the requirements of ASME NQA-1, 10 CFR50 Appendix B, or DOE O 414 QA Programs is a strong plus.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to frequency distribution, test reliability and validity determination, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization.
Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
General knowledge of Microsoft Office and development software.
Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, and Kaizen.
Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…).
US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
Ability to travel domestically/internationally approximately +/-10%.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has no supervisory responsibilities. It may provide technical leadership to lower level engineers by carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and the organization’s policies and procedures, including training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving technically related work problems.
