Radar System Engineer - Maritime and Next-Generation Radars
Job Description
Join Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory on site in Laurel, MD, and help field the Navy’s next generation radar family while expanding capabilities of existing Surface Navy radars. You will collaborate with radar engineers, scientists, and software developers to analyze systems, develop algorithms, and support integration with combat system and missile engineers. Responsibilities
- Apply creative problem solving using your technical skills to identify and address radar system challenges
- Use signal and data processing methods, including machine learning and optimization, on large data sets
- Conduct detailed analyses to uncover root causes of performance observations and inform design decisions
- Collaborate within a team of radar system engineers, analysts, scientists, and software developers
- Coordinate with combat system and missile engineers on systems engineering tasking
- Present analysis results to internal teams, sponsors, and prime contractors to guide program direction
- Grow radar knowledge under the guidance of radar subject matter experts
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent technical field
- At least 1 year of engineering related experience
- Interest in understanding radars and physics-based phenomena affecting radar or communications systems
- Familiarity with Matlab, Python, or similar mathematical analysis tools
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time as needed
- Eligibility to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date, with the potential to attained Top Secret/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship required
