Reliability Engineer
Job Description
Reliability Engineer will support power delivery maintenance and electric system operations through engineering and technical support, data-driven analysis, outage investigations, and asset and improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Engineering reports and work plans: Develop reports and work plans recommending actions based on short and long-range objectives, including economic and budget considerations.
- Project execution: Develop and coordinate individual project work plans, manage through completion, take needed corrective action, and inform supervisors/managers of major developments or direction changes.
- Status and estimates: Provide or support status reporting for work assignments; help prepare estimates including cost, work order, and schedules.
- Data analysis and recommendations: Analyze and interpret operational and performance data and make recommendations and/or decisions.
- Technical documentation: Maintain technical records such as drawings, files, and databases.
- Standards and compliance readiness: Build awareness of procedures, specifications, applicable codes and regulations, compliance rules, and standards (example: RUS) and maintain working knowledge of relevant industry standards.
- Power Delivery Maintenance support: Provide engineering and technical support to field personnel for substation and transmission line maintenance issues.
- System performance monitoring: Accumulate, analyze, interpret, monitor, report, and recommend improvements for overall operations and performance of the electric power delivery system.
- Outage investigation: Support internal outage reporting to ensure sustained and temporary outages are investigated/evaluated timely; initiate appropriate follow-up activities; complete investigation reports with varying levels of assistance.
- Coordination with owner-members: Communicate with owner-member engineering and operations departments to identify and answer concerns related to events or outages.
- Asset management: Support internal asset management for substations and transmission lines, including submission of problem statements for consideration by Engineering & Construction personnel.
- Online monitoring and power quality: Support management of internal online equipment monitoring and power quality programs for substations and transmission lines.
- Design and standards-based improvements: Support improvement of substation and transmission line equipment designs using system performance and RUS data while considering safety codes.
- Maintenance policies and procedures: Assist with development and upkeep of internal maintenance policies and procedures for substations and transmission lines.
- Drones program: Participate in management and improvement of EKPC’s unmanned aerial vehicles (or drones) program for detailed inspections of substations and transmission lines.
- Relays and controls (when applicable): Develop or modify relay control settings for distribution recloser controls and regulator controls as required; evaluate and address clearance (code) violations and encroachments.
- Additional compliance support: Assist with EKPC’s FAC-003 compliance program (as applicable by level).
- Technical services to owner-members: Provide engineering and technical services related to event analysis, power quality, power supply, and electric and magnetic fields (level-dependent).
- Capital projects and construction support: Manage lower-level maintenance capital projects (with assistance by level), support preparation of construction requirements and contracts including material specifications, and collaborate with Engineering & Construction personnel on designs for new or special substation foundations or transmission line structures (as assistance level allows).
- Engineering representation: Serve as a technical representative in meetings with public, members, vendors, contractors, and other utilities (Senior level).
- Safety and timely performance: Perform all work safely and in a timely manner.
Level options
- Engineer I: Responsibilities completed under direct supervision; includes reporting, analysis, documentation, outage support, and field technical assistance with significant assistance.
- Engineer II: Responsibilities completed under limited supervision; includes project coordination, status reporting, technical records, outage investigation support, and monitoring/program work with moderate assistance.
- Engineer III: Responsibilities completed with minimal assistance; includes independent handling of most assignments, outage reporting/investigation, technical services, and design/controls support as applicable.
- Senior: Provides expert engineering services, manages assignments in a safe, regulatory compliant, timely, and cost effective manner; works independently and provides work direction; serves as technical representative in public and corporate settings.
- Placement: Skill levels are open for consideration (Engineer I, II, III and Senior); final placement will match the person’s experience level.
Hybrid remote schedule
- Option for a blend of remote and onsite work if department/business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision.
- Hybrid schedule includes three (3) days on premises and up to two (2) days remote.

- Senior: Provide expert engineering services and support; successfully manages assignments in a safe, regulatory compliant, timely, and cost effective manner; works independently and provides work direction; serves as a technical representative in public and corporate settings.
