Research Software Engineer I (Onsite)
Job Description
Research Software Engineer I at RTX (BBN Technologies) builds prototype software for advanced research initiatives in AI planning/scheduling, compiler enhancements, and OS-related capabilities in a hybrid onsite environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a small team on cutting-edge research and development projects
- Develop prototypes focused on AI-based planning and scheduling (for example, joint all domain command and control)
- Build and improve compiler capabilities (for example, LLVM passes)
- Advance OS-related capabilities (for example, kernel modules and userland services)
- Design and implement prototype software using latest open-source technologies
- Gather and apply feedback from end users, field tests, and exercises
- Investigate technical possibilities with experienced colleagues
- Deliver practical solutions to complex technical problems
Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a STEM major completed by the start date
- Experience with Java and/or C
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with basic Networking and Cloud Integration
- Experience with distributed systems, middleware, and AI

Security Clearance & Eligibility
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
- U.S. citizenship is required, since only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
- DoD Clearance: Secret
- Security clearance status: Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Salary
- USD 57,200 - 108,800 per year

Incentive Compensation
