Job Description
The SAS Data Engineer role at Cesna Recruitment supports a storage and compute platform by performing upgrades, troubleshooting, monitoring, patching, and integration across Isilon, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, Impala, and GPU server environments. This onsite position is located in Austin, TX and includes Linux-focused operational support with automation and security/compliance responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate Isilon and NetApp cluster capacity and performance metrics using OneFS and ONTAP to determine when node replacements or upgrades are required.
- Lead integration efforts for new Isilon and NetApp nodes, ensuring compatibility and minimizing downtime during scalability activities.
- Oversee hardware upgrades and replacements for HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, Impala, and GPU server systems to improve computational and graphics processing capabilities.
- Use Impala Insight IQ and NetApp tools to analyze and resolve issues impacting throughput, latency, and capacity.
- Apply OneFS and ONTAP troubleshooting methods and logs to identify and correct system errors and hardware malfunctions.
- Investigate and remediate performance bottlenecks and system failures across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Impala, and NetApp environments.
- Implement continuous monitoring using Isilon OneFS event logs, NetApp ONTAP tools, SNMP alerts, and Grafana to detect anomalies early.
- Schedule ongoing maintenance using Isilon and NetApp software suites to support storage performance and longevity.
- Monitor and maintain server environments (HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU, Impala, and NetApp), applying updates and running system health checks on a regular cadence.
- Install Impala and NetApp patches and firmware updates, ensuring nodes and supporting software remain secure and current.
- Test new software updates in a sandbox environment to assess performance and stability before rolling changes into the cluster.
- Coordinate and execute software updates and patch installations across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Impala, and NetApp systems to maintain software integrity.
- Provide consulting support to optimize Isilon and NetApp storage solutions, including data migration, system expansion, and configuration tuning.
- Support optimization of HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU configurations to improve computational resources and data processing workflows.
- Assist with the design, configuration, and optimization of NetApp storage architectures for efficient data management.
- Manage phased decommissioning of aging Isilon and NetApp hardware, ensuring alignment with environmental standards and security protocols.
- Coordinate replacement of end-of-life (EOL) hardware across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Isilon, and NetApp to prevent performance degradation.
- Ensure integration and compatibility of Impala, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU storage solutions with the broader IT infrastructure.
- Develop and implement strategies to integrate storage and processing technologies for improved performance and resource utilization.
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, upgrades, and troubleshooting activities to support consistency and onboarding.
- Conduct training sessions or create guides to share system operations knowledge and best practices with internal teams.
- Plan and test disaster recovery procedures for Impala, NetApp, and HPC/Kubernetes/Greenplum/GPU servers to support data availability and business continuity.
- Ensure backup and recovery processes are in place and regularly tested to reduce data loss risk.
- Develop capacity planning strategies to proactively scale storage and compute resources based on performance trends and business needs.
- Create and maintain automation scripts for routine tasks such as monitoring, data migration, and maintenance to improve efficiency.
- Use automation to reduce repetitive work, improve system performance, and minimize manual error.
- Ensure maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting activities comply with organizational security standards and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with security teams on best practices and hardening measures for Isilon, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU servers.
- Participate in data center activities, including racking and initial installation of servers and storage equipment.
- Verify proper cabling, power connections, and network configuration during initial setup to support smooth integration into the IT environment.
