Senior Civil/Structural Design Engineer – Nuclear (Long-Term Contract)
Job Description
This long term contract role involves providing civil and structural design engineering support for a two-unit nuclear plant in Southport, NC. The position emphasizes design modifications, plant modernization, risk reduction, equipment obsolescence management, and capital engineering change projects within a regulated nuclear environment.
Responsibilities
- Act as the Lead Technical and Responsible Engineer for civil and structural design modification initiatives
- Prepare engineering change packages with design inputs, calculations, technical evaluations, specifications, installation instructions, and testing plans
- Provide structural engineering support including seismic analysis, foundation design, equipment mounting, piping systems, and pipe supports
- Assess engineering issues, propose alternatives, and deliver technical recommendations
- Create and update design basis documents, engineering calculations, drawings, and technical requirements
- Support 10 CFR 50.59 screenings and evaluations of nuclear plant modifications
- Offer field engineering support during implementation, including occasional off-hours or outage coverage
- Assist with post-modification testing, turnover, and corrective action or work order activities
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of nuclear industry experience, including civil and structural design modifications
- Experience with engineering change packages and plant modification processes
- Strong understanding of nuclear design controls, configuration management, and QA processes
- Ability to research technical issues and develop engineering recommendations
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access, including required training and fitness-for-duty requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field – Preferred
Experience
- Nuclear: 10 years – Preferred
Work Location
Onsite in Southport, North Carolina. This position requires in person work at the facility.
