Job Description
D-Riven Engineered Solutions is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join the onsite team in Canton, Michigan. In this role, you will design, program, and support PLC-based automation systems while integrating hardware hands-on, with opportunities to travel up to 35 percent to support project implementation. The position emphasizes safety, collaboration, and ongoing optimization of industrial control systems within a diverse range of projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a strong safety posture and follow company, customer, and OSHA safety policies.
- Travel up to 35 percent during project execution, with potential extended stays at various sites.
- Availability to work weekends and overtime when required.
- Complete tasks in accordance with written or verbal instructions and directions.
- Design automation solutions to optimize processes.
- Develop PLC ladder logic to support control interfaces and safeguard parameters per ANSI, OSHA, and customer requirements.
- Document designs using AutoCAD with standard notations and symbols.
- Create electrical diagrams, panel drawings, wiring schematics, HMI pages, and ladder logic as needed.
- Lead design reviews with internal teams and customers.
- Develop project bills of materials and manage related documentation.
- Investigate and test new technologies to validate concepts.
- Upgrade and repair existing controls and equipment.
- Develop and manage project timelines.
- Troubleshoot control issues including PLC ladder logic and I/O; may involve on-site or remote support.
- Analyze plant processes, propose and implement improvements.
- Collaborate with team members to identify problems and implement solutions.
- Perform equipment start-up and verification at on-site and customer locations.
- Maintain controls spare parts inventory and requisition replacements.
- Document design, inspection, and repair data for traceability.
- Contribute to additional duties assigned by management as needed.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong electrical aptitude and knowledge of best practices, techniques, and codes.
- Minimum five years of PLC programming experience.
- Prefer experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix and CompactLogix); Siemens, Automation Direct, and HMI experience are a plus.
- AutoCAD experience for drawing panel layouts, electrical schematics, and ladder logic.
- Experience applying mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of industrial control devices including photoelectric sensors, proximity switches, solenoid valves, frequency and servo drives, and PLC I/O.
- Ability to read schematic drawings, machine prints, and ladder logic.
- Effective teamwork skills within a diverse group of professionals.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.
