Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Lead the design and delivery of enterprise data pipelines and cloud data warehouse capabilities on AWS in a hybrid role based in Rosemont, IL.
Responsibilities
- Own enterprise-scale data pipelines and cloud data warehouse solutions from design through deployment
- Build cloud-based pipelines using modern orchestration tools for company-wide analytics workloads
- Architect and optimize a Redshift data warehouse to support business intelligence and reporting at scale
- Own ETL and data lake architecture decisions, including cataloging and lake formation standards
- Design and implement APIs and API gateway integrations to connect systems and enable data access across the organization
- Bring medallion architecture and modern data standards into production
- Collaborate closely with IT and cross-functional teams in a lean environment
- Participate across the build lifecycle: requirements, design, coding, testing, and deployment
- Troubleshoot and support production platforms used in day-to-day business operations
- Identify broken or outdated components and drive improvements
- Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to team priorities
- Help shape the data engineering practice as the company scales rapidly
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and supporting solutions on AWS, including IAM, S3, API Gateway, and Glue (or similar), plus Lake Formation and Redshift
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including RDS and DynamoDB
- Strong knowledge of a workflow orchestration tool for scheduling and managing pipelines (e.g., Airflow, Step Functions, or similar)
- Proficiency in Python and PySpark for scalable data engineering
- Experience developing and integrating APIs, including API gateway configuration
- Solid understanding of relational database fundamentals and data modeling best practices
- Familiarity with medallion-style or similarly layered data architecture standards
- Stable, progressive career history with depth in data engineering roles
- Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across teams
