Senior Data Engineer (AWS, Databricks, Python)
Job Description
Travelers, a longstanding insurer dedicated to taking care of customers and communities, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and deploy data pipelines that power AI, ML, and enterprise analytics. This role centers on leveraging AWS, Databricks, and Python to integrate diverse data sources into scalable solutions that support call center modernization, digital analytics, and customer experience initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the data engineering efforts for migrating to a SaaS-based call center platform, designing and maintaining pipelines that connect the upgraded upstream data source to the enterprise analytics ecosystem.
- Develop and operate scalable pipelines that process call transcripts, employing Generative AI tools to extract sentiment, topics, entities, and summaries for actionable insights across the Customer and Digital Analytics groups.
- Ingest and consolidate data from a broad portfolio of customer and agent-facing digital applications, including public mobile and web platforms supporting policy rating, issuance, and maintenance.
- Create reliable, scalable data solutions that capture user interactions and behavioral data to enable analytics that improve the digital experience across Travelers front-end applications.
- Build and deploy complex data solutions, troubleshoot problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality measures.
- Architect intricate data solutions, integrating new data sources and ensuring consistency across projects aligned to data strategies.
- Analyze complex data sources to determine value and applicability, recommending datasets for analytical processes.
- Incorporate core data management practices including governance, security, and quality.
- Serve as a data and technology subject matter expert within business lines, supporting delivery and educating end users on data products and analytic environments.
- Perform data and system analysis, assess defects of high complexity, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on complex data products and analytic environments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten years of related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of tools, techniques, and manipulation across cloud platforms, programming languages, and modern software engineering practices.
- Proven ability to define software design strategy, apply automated tests and analyses, and establish feedback loops to ensure quality and production readiness before release, while monitoring the health of work and related systems.
- Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to build partnerships, influence priorities, align solutions with business objectives, and translate industry trends into practical guidance for colleagues.
- Strong problem solver who uses data and proofs of concepts to craft creative solutions to complex, multi-factor problems, measuring impact and iterating to optimize.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technology concepts to business audiences, document initiatives clearly, and listen attentively.
- Proven leadership capability to take initiative and influence teams, even in ambiguous environments.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related STEM field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six additional years of data engineering experience.

Annual base salary range: $139,400.00 β $230,000.00
