Job Description
Senior Electronic and Optical Materials Device Fabrication Engineer role focused on hands-on fabrication of micro- and nanoscale devices in cleanroom environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize multilayer layouts using Python scripting for layout generation and data analysis
- Develop advanced fabrication recipes for multilayer optics using e-beam lithography and direct-write lithography on optical substrates
- Build and maintain version-controlled GDS/layout databases with Python automation for parametric layout generation, fracturing, and design rule checking
- Create data-analysis pipelines that connect design, fabrication, and metrology to track CD, overlay, and yield trends
- Apply AI and machine learning to improve fabrication processes
- Refine deposition workflows across systems including e-beam, thermal, and sputter evaporators, plus PECVD, ALD, and MOCVD to improve device quality
- Characterize thin films and processes using tools such as SEM/EDS, XPS, XRD, AFM, ellipsometry, and film stress analysis
- Run precision etching to meet tight design specifications and tolerances
- Maintain and update process documentation, including runsheets, to support accuracy and repeatability
- Collaborate with teams to innovate and improve fabrication workflows
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience working in a microfabrication or nanofabrication cleanroom environment
- Proficiency in multilayer layout design and modification, with expertise in Python scripting for design automation and data analysis
- Experience optimizing etch and deposition processes, including thermal evaporation, e-beam, sputtering, PECVD, ICP RIE, and ion mill techniques
- E-beam lithography experience is required
- Ability to travel locally to shared cleanrooms and laboratory facilities
- Ability to obtain Interim Secret security clearance by the start date, with eligibility to obtain Top Secret clearance

Preferred (Above Minimum) Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience using e-beam lithography to pattern meta-optic or integrated photonics devices
- Experience patterning materials for photonic integrated circuits, adaptive optics, RF, IR, or MEMS devices
- Familiarity with sophisticated characterization tools, including spectroscopic reflectometry in addition to SEM/EDS, XPS, XRD, AFM, and ellipsometry
- Experience working with metaoptic and integrated photonics designers
Compensation
- Salary range: USD 105,000 - 290,000 per year
