Job Description
AH Engineering Consultants is seeking a Senior Linear Utility Design Engineer to lead planning and design work for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Hampstead, NC. This full-time, on-site role focuses on delivering engineering solutions for utility systems, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and supporting projects through design and construction.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with 10+ years of relevant water and wastewater design experience. Responsibilities span technical development, client and agency coordination, mentoring, and contributing to proposals, schedules, and resource planning.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure, including pump stations, storage systems, pipelines, and related utility improvements.
- Prepare or oversee engineering reports, technical specifications, construction drawings, and cost estimates.
- Manage projects through the design phase and provide support during bidding and construction.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while contributing to team development.
- Participate in client meetings, proposal development, and business development efforts.
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 10+ years of water/wastewater engineering design experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Strong experience with municipal water and wastewater systems design.
- Proven ability to prepare plans, specifications, engineering reports, and design calculations.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving municipal clients and supporting long-term client relationships.
- Background in pump station and linear infrastructure design.
- Project management experience with scope, schedule, and budget oversight.
- Experience mentoring staff and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Compensation and Location
- Salary: USD 125,000 - 175,000 per year
