Job Description

The Senior Millwork Engineer is responsible for translating architectural plans into actionable CAD drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for production and purchasing, while guiding large projects to successful completion. This onsite role in Arcata, CA, requires technical leadership and collaboration across customers, architects, and installation teams.

Position summary

Primary duties include interpreting architectural plans, generating CAD outputs suitable for CNC production, and assembling BOMs for project components. The role demonstrates strong proficiency with Crestmark standards and is expected to lead substantial projects, occasionally supervising other team members to maintain project alignment and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and convey production objectives, project requirements, and assignments to the team
  • Identify, monitor, and communicate obstacles to management
  • Interpret architectural plans and specifications while applying applicable codes and standards
  • Produce CAD drawings for production with CNC-ready outputs for all components
  • Create BOMs for projects and components to support purchasing and costing
  • Develop a detailed understanding of assigned projects and provide guidance to teammates as needed
  • Collaborate with customers, architects, project teams, and subcontractors to define quality standards
  • Work with project teams to ensure production clarity and resolve engineering issues
  • Coordinate with installation teams to deliver clear installation instructions
  • Support development and continuous improvement of the company quality system

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
  • CAD and drafting expertise
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Kinetic knowledge of manufacturing or fabrication environments
  • Understanding of company policies
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Solid mathematical and computational capabilities
  • High school diploma required; AA degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting
  • Proven CAD and drafting experience with understanding of drawing standards
  • Working knowledge of Microvellum, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Fusion preferred
  • Familiarity with quality methodologies and frameworks desired

Location and hours

The position is based at Crestmark’s Arcata, California facility with occasional travel to vendors, customers, trade shows, or installation sites. Typical hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with potential for additional evening or weekend work as needed.
