Job Description

Hargrove and Associates, Inc is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive project performance across an assigned area. The role supports applicable phases of delivery, operating under minimal supervision while owning key aspects of cost, schedule, and client satisfaction. This position is based in Houston, TX with an onsite work arrangement.

Role Overview

In this role, you will manage engineering budgets and resources, coordinate across disciplines, and support delivery review and ownership for multi-discipline engineering outputs. You will serve as a central point for technical communication on project issues and act as a primary coordinator for documents that define project scope and execution expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the Hargrove Project Manager informed of technical issues, decisions, and problems encountered during project work.
  • Manage Engineering budgets and schedule, including reporting responsibility.
  • Plan, schedule, and forecast engineering resources required for project execution.
  • Coordinate with the Client on technical design issues.
  • Own project-specific engineering and design procedures, including obtaining approvals when deviating from Client or Hargrove procedures.
  • Primary coordinator for scope-defining documents (examples include Scope & Criteria documents, P&IDs, and engineering item lists).
  • Recognize and manage scope changes as the project progresses across construction and multiple engineering disciplines.
  • For 3D modeling projects, regularly review the model with a focus on evaluating inter-discipline coordination.
  • Lead inter-discipline coordination by resolving design issues between and among disciplines.
  • Review design deliverables with emphasis on inter-discipline consistency and adequacy of discipline reviews.
  • Own multi-discipline deliverables, including Line List, Equipment List, Area Classification Drawings, P&IDs (assuring regular project review of the master), General Arrangement Drawings, and Scope & Criteria Documents.
  • Manage project team resources and training.
  • Maintain overall quality control of work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Hargrove project execution procedures.
  • Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering standards and project controls tools.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in complex project management.
  • Ability to lead a team to deliver on commitments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the function of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Ability to manage client relationships in complex situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, contractors, government, and professional or trade associations.
  • Ability to handle stress with poise.
  • Understanding of existing and potential customer needs and preferences.
  • Ability to delegate authority appropriately and structure accountability.
  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations and requirements to team members.
  • Ability to set priorities; demonstrated leadership with team orientation.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills and experience.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills (verbal and written) and excellent presentation skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Ideal Background

  • Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Bio-Medical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registration: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.
