Senior Silicon Security Engineer

The Senior Silicon Security Engineer role supports Google’s work on secure, open source silicon roots of trust. The position centers on building and maintaining security for silicon platforms, with responsibilities spanning security architecture, verification workflows, vulnerability assessment, and vendor-driven verification.

Location and Work Model

• Location: Sunnyvale, CA
• Work setup: Onsite
• Compensation: USD 174,000 - 252,000 per year

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate in a multi-company partnership with a dedicated focus on security silicon.
• Develop security architecture, silicon design, and verification for open source silicon roots of trust, including Caliptra and OpenTitan.
• Oversee silicon design verification and maintain EDA tool workflows within an open source code hosting context.
• Coordinate and drive external silicon design verification work through vendors.
• Assess vulnerabilities in silicon root of trust designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling.
• 5 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols.
• 5 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
• Experience with EDA tools and typical ASIC design and verification flows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hardware, firmware, and systems programming.
• Experience with hardware system architecture.
• Experience with risk assessment and threat models.
