Job Description
Base-2 Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help design, deploy, and maintain a full-stack, containerized microservices architecture supporting the NMEC DOMEX Technology Platform and the D3P Modernization effort. In this onsite role in Bethesda, MD, you will focus on production big data pipeline operations, Kubernetes-based services, and continuous delivery improvements to support Agile execution.
Role Summary
You will operate and evolve a Kubernetes-based microservice environment that uses Elasticsearch for search and Kafka for messaging. The work includes maintaining big data pipelines in production, improving CI/CD and DevOps processes, and supporting scalable infrastructure across physical and virtualized environments.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, triage, and maintain a production big data pipeline using a microservice architecture running on Kubernetes, with an Elasticsearch backend and Kafka messaging.
- Enhance and maintain CI/CD and DevOps scripts and processes.
- Design, develop, and support scalable and redundant infrastructure across physical and virtualized environments.
- Use Helm to configure Kubernetes deployments in support of new feature requirements.
- Collaborate with systems engineering, architecture, development, security, operations, and integration teams.
- Participate in Agile release planning, scrum of scrums, bug triage, design sessions, and related meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI with ability to obtain a CI Polygraph.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the category field.
- Strong Linux proficiency.
- Hands-on experience with containers and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD orchestration and GitLab.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana.
- Demonstrated success working in cross-functional engineering environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating systems at scale.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
- Development experience with Bash, PowerShell, SALT, Python, Groovy, or Java.
- Experience supporting enterprise or production systems.
- Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging systems, Kubernetes monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, GPU-based Kubernetes, SALT for deployment automation, Helm/Helmfile, and Nexus.

Compensation is a competitive fixed salary or hourly pay (based on experience, skills, location, and internal equity).
