Senior Software Engineer - Tools
Job Description
Senior Software Engineer - Tools will develop the tooling that converts robot field recordings into training-ready data.
Responsibilities
- Own the viewer engineers use to play back robot data and align telemetry with recorded errors
- Own dataset curation, including the dataset API and tools to find, group, and assemble episodes into training sets
- Build annotation tooling in collaboration with the broader software team
- Evaluate build-versus-buy tradeoffs for tooling and workflows
- Build and maintain the quality review process for annotated data
- Partner with the ML team that trains on this data, fleet debugging engineers, and annotators who label it
Requirements
- Have built an internal tool that became the standard way a team works
- Have built visualization and/or analysis tools for large volumes of sensor and video data
- Have built dataset tooling and/or a data pipeline that ML engineers train from
- Have designed a labeling or review workflow used to annotate data at scale
About the Role
- Tools will help transform what robots capture in the field into data models learn from
- Use the same tooling to connect changes in robot telemetry to the moment an error occurred
- Decide which moments are worth training on and which labels remain reliable under review
- Leverage records captured on site while robots work to improve label quality
- Own systems that drive data quality as model quality
- Determine what enters the training set and what the tools reveal about data patterns that guide future R&D
Mission
- Expand human ambition in the physical world
