Job Description

Onsite in Boston, MA, Humana is hiring a Senior User Interface Design Engineer to craft intuitive, high-trust digital experiences for clinical tools and care-facing platforms. You will own end-to-end UI design, partner with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders, and help evolve how accessibility, privacy, and AI-fluent design approaches show up in real workflows.

Salary range: USD 97,900 - 133,500 per year. This role is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end design for assigned product verticals, from discovery through pixel-perfect delivery, including workflow design, information architecture, and interface design for data-dense, human-in-the-loop clinical workflows.
  • Support and contribute to design systems, patterns, and scalable design standards.
  • Present design recommendations and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and building alignment across teams.
  • Build interactive, high-fidelity prototypes to demonstrate complex interactions and validate user flows.
  • Help evolve how AI-assisted tools are incorporated into the design process as internal tooling access expands.
  • Plan and execute qualitative user research, usability testing, and feedback sessions to validate design decisions and iterate quickly.
  • Champion WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and plain-language design principles to support inclusive experiences across varying levels of digital and health literacy.
  • Design with sensitivity to privacy, patient trust, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on product design experience (UI/UX) delivering digital products, web applications, or complex enterprise platforms from concept to launch, with a strong portfolio of complex interfaces showing visual hierarchy and clean execution for data-dense applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expert-level Figma skills, including auto-layout, tokens, component variables, and interactive prototyping.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, working within established design system and standards.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguous requirements, and maintain high design quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills to articulate design decisions, present to cross-functional stakeholders, and discuss technical constraints and tradeoffs directly with engineers.
  • Demonstrated success using design to improve business and customer outcomes, including patient satisfaction, engagement, retention, or operational efficiency.
  • AI fluency: understanding of how AI-driven features behave in-product (latency handling, confidence scoring, human-in-the-loop workflows) and genuine interest in AI-assisted design tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing within clinical, healthcare, or health-tech environments, or in other regulated/high-stakes domains.
  • Experience designing interfaces for complex data pipelines, dynamic real-time data, or decision-support tools.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision benefits
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • Time off (including paid time off, company and personal holidays, paid parental and caregiver leave)
  • Short-term and long-term disability
  • Life insurance
