Job Description

On-site Site AI Engineer in Charlotte Amalie, VI, turning AI ideas into deployed agents and redesigned workflows on construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities and redesign workflows by leading discovery, mapping value streams, evaluating current processes and data maturity, and documenting high impact, low effort AI use cases
  • Assess jobsite process and data maturity; review workflows and data foundations, surface gaps blocking AI adoption, and develop phased improvement plans with Operations Excellence to establish baselines before deploying agents
  • Evaluate market solutions; review off-the-shelf and platform tools, run pilots, measure results, and scale successful implementations
  • Deliver rapid MVP AI agents from user stories using AWS Bedrock, Sagemaker, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other frameworks within days; leverage AI coding assistants; connect front ends to Teams/SharePoint and back ends to Databricks Lakehouse, AWS services, or other data sources
  • Develop enterprise grade engineering and LLMOps for agentic RAG pipelines backed by Opensearch and other data stores; automate infrastructure with GitHub Actions; monitor latency, cost, adoption, and drift
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to design and maintain ETL pipelines, API integrations, and event-driven connectors feeding RAG and agents
  • Orchestrate cross cloud solutions by combining AWS Bedrock, OpenAI components, and Azure OpenAI behind secure connectors; package agents for seamless rollout
  • Drive change enablement by training crews, collecting feedback, iterating, and tracking adoption and ROI; apply influence-model practices to embed agents into daily routines and SOPs; monitor behavior change KPIs
  • Communicate with project leadership and clients on agent impact in business terms; contribute use cases and playbooks for Suffolk's Construction Site of the Future
  • Escalation and hand-off: draft precise user stories, data specs, and acceptance criteria for complex solutions requiring central AI Solution Engineers or Data Engineering/Data Science teams; collaborate to turn prototypes into enterprise-grade applications
  • Ensure on-site AI tools comply with Suffolk’s information security, data governance, and client confidentiality standards

Requirements

  • 4 to 6 plus years in AI engineering, full stack data applications, or data science, including at least 2 years building production LLM, RAG, or Agentic solutions
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Hands-on work in construction or heavy process industries (manufacturing, oil & gas, chemicals) is a significant plus
  • Proven process excellence background (Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt a strong plus) with experience diagnosing process and data gaps and supporting change management with Operations Excellence
