AI Engineer

Build AI solutions end to end with PowerPlan’s Applied AI team. This hybrid role embeds with departments to turn real problems into working tools, with measurable impact, shared quality standards, and runbooks that help teams operate and evolve what you ship.

What you’ll do

• In your first 30 days, embed with your first department, learn the work from the people who do it, and align on a one-page problem statement, a measured baseline, and real examples before you build.
• Help create the team playbook for building with AI tools, including standards, how shared work stays current, and how you test for quality and robustness based on what you learn during real builds.
• By the end of your first quarter, deliver your first solution into weekly pilot use, using real examples to test it and measuring time saved against the baseline.
• Scale from one pilot to one or two solutions in weekly use by month six, and grow to three solutions across at least two departments by year end, including two larger cross-department builds with the team’s AI data engineer.
• Redesign clumsy workflows with the people who run them, improving them without simply making them faster, and use agentic coding tools as your default approach to building.
• Ensure departments can run and change what you build by leaving behind runbooks and training for internal operators.
• Publish reusable agent skills and workflow patterns by month six, grow them into a company-wide library, and help define when AI output can be trusted versus when a person should check it.

What you bring

• 2 to 4 years of professional experience building or shipping software products (as an engineer, product manager, or similar), or a master’s degree in a related field plus at least one year of experience.
• Experience shipping software or products that other people rely on, with the ability to explain what you built, why, and what changed after adoption.
• Systems thinking and first-principles reasoning, including the ability to question why a step exists before automating it and to show a process you changed rather than just sped up.
• The ability to turn an expert conversation into a clear problem statement and a way to measure success.
• Agentic coding tools as your default workflow, including planning the work, directing the tool, and checking what it produces (PowerPlan builds with Claude Code and provides the tools). Example tools include Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or OpenCode.
• Working ability with Python or JavaScript, using SQL and APIs to build working software or contribute through agentic coding tools.
• Clear communication of tradeoffs and experience teaching others to change a tool themselves, formally or informally.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, industrial or systems engineering, or a closely related field.
• Based in Atlanta and able to be in the office at least three days a week, and authorized to work in the United States (this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship, now or in the future).

Even better if…

• You have a minor or coursework in business, economics, or finance, or work experience in or alongside finance, accounting, professional services, or customer support.
• You’ve used continuous improvement methods such as Lean, Six Sigma, or value stream mapping.
• You’ve automated workflows inside business systems, or built agent skills, MCP connections, or other reusable pieces for AI tools.
• You hold a master’s degree in a related field (computer science, information systems, data science, or business analytics).

Hybrid work note

This is a hybrid role with a combination of onsite work from PowerPlan’s corporate office and work from home. Flexible arrangements are considered when sensible, but onsite work is required at times, including scheduled office days, team meetings, client meetings, or special events.
