Mastercard is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer I as part of the Launch Program 2027 in O'Fallon, MO (onsite). This early-career role emphasizes production readiness, platform stability, and operational practices that help teams deliver resilient, scalable products.

Role Overview

In the Launch Program 2027, the Site Reliability Engineer I role supports production readiness for Mastercard products and focuses on operational design, automation, capacity planning, monitoring, triage, and root cause analysis. The position also includes performing blameless post-mortems and engaging earlier in the development lifecycle to improve proactive delivery and operational outcomes. A key focus area is risk and compliance mitigation across environments, aligned with product and customer priorities through continuous feedback.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the production readiness steward for Mastercard products.
• Help ensure the platform is stable and healthy.
• Foster developer-run ownership and support developers in building resilient products.
• Assist developers during the application build phase using software run principles, including operational design, automation, capacity planning, and monitoring to enable fault-tolerant, scalable outcomes.
• Create and enforce operations standards while supporting an agile and learning culture.
• Support daily operations with a focus on triage and root cause, including understanding business impact of supported products.
• Perform blameless post-mortems.
• Engage early in the development lifecycle to be more proactive and upfront.
• Proactively manage production and change activities to maximize customer experience and increase the value of supported applications.
• Manage risk by tying activities to an overarching responsibility for compliance and risk mitigation across all environments.
• Provide continuous feedback to align Product and Customer focused priorities with operational needs throughout the lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or accelerated Master’s program, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
• Experience through projects or internships with programming/scripting (Python, Go, Bash, or similar), Linux/Unix, and foundational networking concepts.
• Internship or strong project work involving cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and automation tools through academic or hands-on experience.
• Understanding of system monitoring, observability, application reliability, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Exposure to tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Jenkins, Bitbucket, PCF, or similar technologies through coursework, projects, internships, or personal learning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with willingness to learn new technologies and collaborate in a team environment.
• This role is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, both now and in the future, without employer sponsorship.

Compensation and Education

• Location: O'Fallon, MO (onsite)
• Salary: USD 81,000 per year
• Education: Bachelor’s or accelerated Master’s degree (anticipated graduation December 2026 to June 2027)
