Job Description

The Weather Company is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer for its commercial aviation engineering team. In this hybrid role in Andover, MA, you will build and evolve products used by dispatchers and pilots, delivering data-rich experiences powered by modern APIs, visualizations, and cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain full stack features across frontend and backend systems for global aviation users, delivering data-rich aviation applications.
  • Create high-performance, intuitive visualizations that convert complex weather and flight data into clear, actionable information.
  • Design and extend RESTful APIs in Go and Node.js to serve real-time weather and flight data at scale.
  • Develop responsive, performant frontend interfaces in React for demanding aviation operations environments.
  • Use MongoDB and SQL Server to store, query, and manage large volumes of weather and flight data efficiently.
  • Contribute to established products built on .NET/C# and SQL Server to support continuity and quality across the portfolio.
  • Deploy, monitor, and manage services on AWS, following cloud infrastructure and security best practices.
  • Use AI coding tools (including GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude) in daily development to accelerate velocity, improve code quality, and address complex problems.
  • Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews by providing constructive feedback and supporting engineering quality across the team.
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and engineers in an agile delivery environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across multiple systems, minimizing impact to aviation operations.
  • Join the team’s 24x7 on-call rotation after a structured ramp-up period to support reliability and incident response.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–5 years of professional software development experience with meaningful contributions to full stack applications.
  • Practical experience using AI tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar) as part of a regular workflow for code generation, debugging, testing, or documentation.
  • Proficiency in React or a comparable modern frontend framework for building and maintaining complex, data-driven UIs.
  • Backend experience in one or more of: Go, Node.js, or .NET/C#.
  • Working knowledge of both relational databases (SQL Server or equivalent) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of REST API design and HTTP fundamentals.
  • Experience using Git in a collaborative team environment.
  • A record of writing readable, testable, maintainable code and taking ownership of quality.
  • Ability to work across multiple codebases and adapt to varying technology stacks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including diagnosing and resolving issues in complex distributed systems.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience building AI-powered product features or integrating LLM APIs into applications.
  • Hands-on AWS experience (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, or similar services).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience with legacy system modernization.
  • Background or interest in the commercial aviation or weather technology domain.

Compensation

Base Salary: USD 105,000 - 135,000 per year.

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.

Work Model

This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week in office. Engineers on this team participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation following a structured training and onboarding period.
