Job Description

The Integrated Assignments Product Team within Associate Management at State Farm builds and modernizes the applications that enable assignment and reassignment workflows across multiple channels. In this Software Engineer role, you will design, develop, test, and support enhancements spanning REST APIs and user interface components, while also contributing to modernization and production stability efforts.

This hybrid position is based in Bloomington, IL, and the listed salary range is USD 97,000 - 123,000 per year.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, test, and support enhancements for Integrated Assignments applications and services.
  • Work with business and technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain REST APIs, backend services, and user interface components supporting assignment and reassignment workflows.
  • Participate in modernization initiatives, including cloud migration, platform upgrades, and technology refresh efforts.
  • Build and enhance applications using Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern UI frameworks.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to improve stability and reliability.
  • Improve application performance, scalability, and resiliency to support future growth in agent reassignment activity.
  • Collaborate with teammates on code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, and Codex to improve development efficiency while following sound engineering practices.

Required experience

  • Experience developing and supporting Java applications.
  • Experience with Spring Boot and RESTful API design and development.
  • Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or DB2.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and ROSA.
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including source control, testing, CI/CD, and secure coding practices.
  • Experience using Git-based development workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex application issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and business partners.
  • Self-motivated approach with a willingness to learn new technologies and contribute across business and modernization initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation and benefits

  • Potential starting salary range: $97,000 - $123,000 per year.
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary.
  • Eligible for an annual raise and bonus.

Hybrid work requirements

  • Qualified candidates must live within a 180-mile radius of a hub location and plan to work from home and in the office as part of the hybrid environment.
