Software Engineer, Backend (AI-Native)
Job Description
Alpha Nodus, Inc. is seeking a backend software engineer to own the AI-native healthcare automation backend. This onsite role in Sunrise, FL 33319 pairs direct client interaction with hands-on development, leveraging AI-assisted tooling to accelerate delivery while building scalable, multi-tenant systems on AWS serverless infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Architect and deliver backend services and APIs using AWS serverless technologies.
- Design and implement event-driven workflows capable of handling large volumes of documents, transactions, and system events.
- Establish and troubleshoot secure connections to customer environments, including site-to-site VPNs, private networks, and on‑prem integration gateways.
- Integrate with external systems and APIs that vary in documentation quality and reliability.
- Own production services end to end: monitor, alert, respond on call, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Leverage Claude and agentic tooling to speed up development cycles, followed by thorough review, testing, and hardening.
- Lead requirements discussions with customers, extracting the underlying problem, clarifying scope, and validating before building.
- Own large projects end to end—from scope and design through delivery and status communication—without being managed step by step.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field; master's preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of experience building production backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, the stack used across the platform.
- Solid API design, data modeling, and relational database fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with the serverless stack: Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3.
- Practical experience with IAM, VPC configuration, and Secrets Manager.
- Infrastructure as code experience using CDK, Terraform, or SAM.
- Familiarity with CloudWatch for troubleshooting and observability.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, NAT, and firewall rules.
- Practical VPN experience including IPsec site-to-site, split tunneling, and subnet/CIDR planning.
- Ability to diagnose connectivity issues across customer boundaries without guessing.
- Daily use of Claude, Claude Code, or comparable agentic tools.
- Strong prompting, fast iteration, and delivering working software in hours rather than days.
- Critical review of AI outputs to catch bugs, edge cases, and insecure defaults; AI accelerates work but does not replace judgment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; able to lead client calls and produce clear summaries.
- Skilled at eliciting requirements, asking clarifying questions, and targeting the real problem rather than the initial request.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders without condescension.
- Proactive about status, flagging risks and delays early rather than staying quiet.
- Proven track record delivering large projects independently from requirements through delivery.
- Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities in an early-stage company.
- Bias toward shipping first, then measuring outcomes.
